Products and Services
Our core business is the manufacturing of traditional coal fired clay bricks. We operate from Maseru East where we rent three manufacturing sites. The bricks are manufactured using clay soil, coal ash, and water. We extract the clay soil within a 10km radius of our manufacturing sites, we have a standing arrangement with a textile factory in the industrial area to supply us with coal ash, and we source water from the Maqalika dam which is less than 10 meters from our sites.
The manufacturing process is three stage, 24 days operation. It involves
  • Mixing of water, mud, and coal ash on the first day
  • Brick molding on the second day and drying from the third to the fifth consecutive day
  • Initial packing of the molded bricks into an oven for three days, burning of the bricks on the third day for fourteen days concurrent with packing of the remainder of the bricks onto the oven
Market Analysis and Marketing Strategy
The outskirts of Maseru including MASOWE, Ha Foso, and the area bordering Ha `Nelese and Masianokeng are new suburban residential areas with large housing development projects. Many of the houses build in these areas are financed by banks and therefore built by contractors. The contractors are our primary customers. They typically order our bricks in large volumes of at least 30 000 bricks.
In general, the housing developments are for middle to upper income households with access to social media like Facebook. We have been able to leverage this by sponsoring Facebook advertisements and so get some of our orders through the platform. We also distribute flyers at strategic locations such as hardware. None of our competitors are doing this. In addition, customers seem to prefer the convenience of a free delivery service within a short lead time from placement of an order.
